  1. Steam have added user reviews: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-25-steam-adds-a-user-reviews-section
  2. Made it as far as day 12 and picked up my first achievement, the Obristan Token. I started over from the beginning and have been flying through each day trying to maximise my profits. Going well so far, I've made it to day 7 with $60 in the bank. I had $75 on day 6 but it ended early with a terrorist attack... Papers, Please is this year's FTL. It takes a really solid concept and executes it brilliantly.

    Spelunky

Those vines spell instant death for me. I've died every time when I try to jump to a short vine. I try to avoid them...

    Spelunky

My new life's goal is to beat Carp in the daily challenge. I had the pick axe in that run which is just fucking awesome. Minecraft that shit.

    Spelunky

Gave it a few goes using the jungle short cut and made it to the Ice Caves - and all the new ways to die. Can't remember if I jumped or I was pushed but anyway there was no platform underneath to save me...swallowed up by the darkness.

  7. I've been rotating between playing this, Spelunky, Papers Please and Shadowrun Returns - and damn they're all great! As you can tell from this and the above screenshot, animals play a big part in the art style of the game. The aim of the game seems to be to restore colour to the game world, similar to Okami (and by doing so bring your wife back to life, somehow or other). So far the game has been linear and I've been moving forward at a good pace. Now I'm in a location called Marin's Bay (a nice nod to Link's Awakening) and I think I'm about to explore the first dungeon. Combat has been very basic and Zelda-like so far, most enemies die with one or two whacks. The writing is very nice, as you would expect from a whimsical game like this...
  8. Hopefully Persona 5 will be ported to the 360 (or a next gen console). if not I'm sure I'll be able to borrow a PS3 from someone who has moved on to the PS4... Or I could just buy a PS3 if it came to it. Either way, great news.
  9. I've completed the first "mission" of sorts, The Redmond Barrens (now in the Seamstress Union) and to be honest I've been smiling from ear to ear. This game is great. A few points: - There are some really smart design decisions in this game. If you click on a point far away from your current location your character will sprint there really fast. If you go to exit the game it will tell you how old your most recent save is (in seconds/minutes) - so if for some reason you mistakenly thought the game had saved, you would spot that it hasn't. The game has been criticised for not having a save anywhere feature like the games of yore (changed for the expansion) - but really, that type of saving introduces problems of its own and from what I've played would be completely unnecessary in this game. - The writing is excellent. I've been engaged in the story and each conversation so far. Two thumbs up.
  10. Well I've gone into debt twice and gotten the same jail ending. But the good thing is you can pick up from any day you've played so you don't have to spend time replaying through all the early days (unless you want to!). At the moment I'm on Nov 29. Nov 28 added the work pass, that was the most recent addition to the entry requirements... $15 in the bank!
  11. Don't believe this has a thread in the games section. Anyway, I downloaded it and my computer can't handle it. Movement is very juddery at the lowest resolution. Oh well. How did you guys get on with it, performance wise?
  12. I started this tonight and it's really slick. Runs perfectly on my five year old piece of shit laptop, and looks great. I played through the first fight which was very easy (a common complaint about the game, from what I've read) - but good fun. It's a turn based isometric crpg after all. So far the writing has been enjoyable. I picked a street samurai but I've held on to all my skill points, going to wait and see what the hell I end up doing in the game first. Overall, my first impressions are that they have made very tidy use of the $1.8 million they raised on kickstarter. 16. Started this tonight. Shows what can be done with 35mb! I love the menu screen. There should be an annual award for best menu screen.

  18. Two Brothers is a retro Zelda-like that was successfully kickstarted in September 2012: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ackkstudios/two-brothers-0 Right now you can get it on their own humble store for $9.99 or wait for it to appear on Steam sometime in the coming days. I've played the opening half-hour or so and It's a beautiful game with a lovely gameboy-style soundtrack and art style, with controller support.
  19. Play Two Brothers! I'm going to create a thread for it now...
  20. Gonna toss a phoenix down on this thread. Played the first hour of this tonight. It's one of the worst first hours of any game I've ever played. Reading through previous comments - the disjointed gameplay, the barrage of mechanics and tutorials - the slowdown - I agree with them all. This game just doesn't compare favourably with any good jrpg. I suppose the main problem is the awful combat. It's some kind of real time, streamlined, westernised mess. With a terrible camera. I mean real-time combat (in a traditional jrpg) doesn't need to be special (e.g. Final Fantasy XII) to be functional, or fun, but The Last Story falls way short. It's nonsense. But at least you can roll to your heart's content eh? Keep rollin', rollin', rollin'... Can't say anything good for the graphics or art style either, although exploring the city is pleasant enough. A game like this needs PS3 or 360 technology or it's just going to be dog ugly. There does seem to be a nice focus on character interaction and story, but again the voice acting and script are poor. Shite, by western standards. On the borderline of acceptable by jrpg standards. To me it feels like Mistwalker deliberately attempted to westernise the jrpg but all they've done is conjure up horribly unfavourable comparisons with games like Skyrim and The Witcher. Sakaguchi needs to go back to his original formula, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were beautiful games... I'll still be squeezing every last drop of enjoyement out of it though because I paid more than enough for it.
  21. I think I'm confused between this and Adventure Time. Are they two different shows then?
  22. The Age of Decadence is an old school isometric 3D rpg that has been in development for a long time (since 2004 I think). They released a combat demo for the game in 2009 and the first proper demo in 2012. Recently an expanded version of the demo has been released, which includes two of the games three major cities and essentially 60% of the content of the game. This is the version that is now also available on Steam Early Access: http://store.steampowered.com/app/230070 The title refers to the period of the decline of the Roman Empire, which is the setting for the game. Combat is turn based and quite similar to the original Fallout in that weapons can have fast/slow/aimed attacks and that all actions and movement cost AP. What's unique is the level of detail in the game and how the character you choose impacts how you play through the game - i.e. the game has combat and non-combat classes, and the non-combat classes will literally find other means to make it through the games quests and scenarios. It's a "scenario" and dialogue heavy game. Encounters in the game play out like this where the game cuts to a conversation screen and depending on your character and your stats you have various options to navigate your way through it: I pre-orded it a long time ago after playing the free demo (which is also on Steam). So far I've played two hours of the Early Access version and I'm really enjoying it. I guess you know if you'll like this kind of thing. It's a very detailed rpg in the spirit of the isometric rpgs of the late 90s and early 00s.

  24. Any reason why you haven't picked up Mother 3 for the GBA? Awesome stuff anyway. When I was younger I didn't understand the concept of the cardboard supports in gameboy boxes so mine are all shagged. I'm going to have to start collecting original boxed copies of my favourite old games...
