This took longer to get out than I wanted it too, but I finally pulled my finger out and got it done

Recent bargains. Got all 3 for less than £30.

Got to the part where you meet Ellie for the first time. There's a slightly different feel to everything, a stiffness really, that they ironed out massively for the sequel. But this game is still a looker. What does feel a bit antique is the general AI. Just basic patrol paths here, and enemies generously presenting their backs to you for a good shiving. Still, you can't complain, and I've always been one of those gamers who appreciates a bit of stupidity in the enemy. That stuff is getting less and less prevalent as the generations roll on. Bugger.

I can find the FF crowd hard to deal with in general but Max really did get to be the worst of it by a mile. I mean he isn’t the only person I’ve seen stand on their chair or start sobbing at gameplay trailers, and I get it. We all have games we drool over and get extra excited for, and I like to see people happy about video games. But his “Road to FF7” and the bit of the Let’s Play I saw when he starts crying at a skybox was too much. I don’t want to be that guy, I want people to be excited for video games, but there was something about all that which was OTT. I think he does one video where he spends most of the time talking about the jacket he was wearing when he went and played the E3 demo. Err.... Having said all of that, his reaction video to Cloud in Smash, put on or not, I think is a great video and makes me laugh and happy.

Probably jumping the shark here but, Paper Mario: The Origami King is likely to be the only new game I get for this year. So I'll add this preemptively.

Hamilton (Disney+) Superb musical, or perhaps really operetta as there is minimal spoken dialogue. This is a filming of a live theatrical performance - not movie remake. A huge amount of history and politics is covered in the 2hr 40min running time, focussed in the Act 1 on War of Independence and Act 2 Establishment of US Government and key principles and notable 'hiccups'. Couple of oddities, the reuse of some cast from Act 1 into different characters in Act 2 threw me a bit, as too did the portrayal of Hamilton's 9 yr old son, and Burr's confession in the opening number seemed unnecessary, but they don't detract from a compelling story and fantastic mix of song styles and genres. Definitely worthy of several rewatches.

Just watched it mate after seeing you put it as one of your games of the year in the Hot Topic thread. Never even heard of it but It looks great. Getting some big Paper Mario vibes from it. I’ll definitely be checking it out in future. Just one question, can you turn the text/voice sound effect off? That’d wind me up no end from what I saw.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has been the only 2020 game I’ve played so far but it will take something special to knock it down I think (although there are some special looking games on the way).

I was thinking about this last night funnily enough, I watched an ign thing that felt a bit pointless because it was just the heavy hitters, but it did remind me that I need to focus on Kentucky Route Zero I wish I liked Doom more than I did, I'll have to go back to it. I liked the Xcom game, I'll have to go back to that. Slightly disappointingly for me my picks are mainstream ? Last of Us 2 Streets of Rage 4 Final Fantasy 7 remake
