  1. First things first. If you've not enjoyed these games before, abandon thread now. There's no point in you wasting your time here. It's more of the same with tweaks, mostly good tweaks, but nothing that's going to convince you you want to spend time with the series. For the people that do like the games, you're in for a treat. First of all, despite looking like a budget game, it looks glorious in motion.Debris and chitin breaks off everything while you're shooting it, blood flies across the tarmac and up[ the skyscrapers in the most ridiculous fashion turning the levels into a B movie version of Splatoon. Buildings drop after taking set amounts of damage rather than falling to the ground after being hit with explosives once. There's a significant improvement visually. The best thing? Zero frame drops in this chaos. However you will see a slight stutter as it loads in the next wave occasionally, it doesn't happen every time but there's a bit of a performance blip. It never truly stunts the action though, which is the most important thing. Enemies. The Hectors are gone (Or have not showed up yet) and have been replaced by giant bipedal frogs. The AI behaviour of these frogs, as well as the danger they present offers a nice tactical hinge where they differ from killing swarms. I found it best to use cover and then when you get close enough to them use shotguns to kill them in one magazines worth of buckshot. However, you can pelt them from a distance and amputate limbs which will cause them to react differently dependant on what gets blown apart. Don't leave it too long because limbs can grow back. Levels. I don't want to spoil this too much, but those settings from previous games where it's basically sunny all the time and in the day or underground? Not anymore. Weapons. You can level up weapons now. A lot of the weapons have returned, but there's also new ones to get. For instance I was using a rocket last night that worked like the one from Half Life 2 where you have a laser that can guide the rocket precisely where you want. The other weapons seem to have had a rebalance as well, the shotguns seem to have a place now. I've not seen anything super crazy yet, but most of what I have seen has been good. Classes. I've only played as Ranger so far, but the sprint feature they've added has helped no end. It's basically Gear's roadie run, although it ends with a weird slide I don't like. Useful for getting out of bad situations or collecting items. Speaking of which, while you are running you have a circle around you that automatically picks up items. I think this collection circle is around vehicles as well, although I've not witnessed that with my own eyes yet. The Ranger can also call in small vehicles for himself, but I've only had a bike and to be perfectly honest it's not as good as the built in perks you get from being on foot. Other alterations. After every mission amour collected and weapons are distributed between the 4 classes, with the class you are playing getting the lions share. There's a bad aspect to this screen though, since if you've collected a lot of weapons it goes through the whole process of levelling them up and explaining what they are. I don't think it's a bad thing completely, but for a game you could spend hundreds of hours in, having a skip button to cut through that crap would have been nice. Regardless, it's going to make it so that if you want to try out another class you're not starting with a blank slate, which is a good thing since EDF is one of those games where altering your teams composition is something that is encouraged. Also I think the drops are more generous than before. Other changes. Inferno is locked so no going to the end of the game to get super powered weapons. In fact the armour and weapon limit persists right into Inferno and the only way to shut it off is to hit 70% of missions complete to remove limits. They might have taken away with one hand, but they've given with the other. difficulties now stack, so no need to play on difficulties you're blazing through. I'll probably be back with another huge wall of text later when I've played some more.

  2. Okay, we've touched on this in the LOLZ thread but I've been thinking about this creature all morning and I'm putting my thoughts here. It's what we've seen of the movie Sonic coming out next year: I've can't get where the idea for this came from out of my head. I had to make sense of it. Now the obvious thing is the proportions are different from the Sonic we know. He doesn't have those big hands and feet game sonic has but I remembered a video series from the guy who did the voice over on Extra Credits videos, and his day job is an animator and he made some videos on animation in games, one of which was the Sonic series. When it got to the 3D games he'd often talk about how weird the animation is in the cut scenes because of the proportions of the characters. Obviously its not an absolute limitation as the cartoons would look okay but not so much with these 3D models; I guess they have different challenges. It does make me think that's why that change was made for this film. And also, Sonic the Hedgehog was a game that was conceptualised before the character was designed so I think it is a design that was made for a specific context; that being for a 2D platformer where the camera is always a set distance away and proportions are made bigger or smaller to help communicate certain actions. I guess he's muscular because he's meant to look like an athlete which makes sense but still looks weird. But why the big head? I guess they have to keep him somewhat recognisably Sonic-like. I dunno, I'm honest to God not just being contrarian when I say this but I kinda love the design so far. He's Sonic the Dashing Goblin, I can't wait to see his face and shriek with a mix of horror and delight. He looks like if Sonic cameo'd in a Ren & Stimpy episode. seriously, I think I'm into this freak.

  4. the weirdest thing about it isn't his legs, it's his hands. He's got "real" hands instead of gloves, it's creepy

  7. Hmmm, that’s a shame. I could’ve joined my wife in her game. Guess we’ll just have to carry on not interacting with each other in any shape or form. Cheers for the info @RoboticMonk3y ?

  8. Not strictly FIFA 18 but close enough to be related. There's a fun quiz on the BBC website where you have to identify footballers from their avatar from videogames from the last few years (FIFA and PES predominantly). It's worth a look anyway: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/article/50bad299-203f-4598-8850-09a523f1e05e

  12. Bought a fab new crossbow from the Lone Wolf encampment, that seemed well worth the 3000g as it did twice the damage my current one did. But what I hadn't realised was how the weapon level & character level were linked, and as crossbow was lv 14 but character lv 10, my accuracy plunged to just 25%. So, not really much point in using that after all.

  13. @OCH I wouldn't disagree about GotG2, I will about Ragnarok though. I think they'd painted Thor's character into a corner personality wise between the two avengers films and the two Thor movies. Ragnarok was a complete tonal 180, but I don't think that was a bad thing. Perhaps it helped that I'm a big fan of the directors other works and the humorous appeals to me, but I loved it. Like @RikSP says, I think they found the nuance with Thor in IW, but over all I think it's improved his character dramatically.

  15. I need to get around to finishing this at some point. I got stuck halfway through, became sidetracked and not played it since. I wouldn’t say it was overly funny as such, but it had me laugh a few times.

  16. Definitely up for this. Dangerous Golf was a right laugh, good times. Golf is normally boring AF,so adding explosions made it 100% better.

  17. With characters that old like Bond or Holmes they've naturally had some shaping and tonal shifts but essentially held onto the same ideals that established the character. Even there some of the changes I haven't liked or I don't think worked. It's like all these cries about female Batman or whatever rather than explore the catalogue that's there or invent new ones. I've said for years characters like Harley would be good to explore. They do a piece of good casting and a great performance from Margot Robbie and whaddya know - a popular female character cropping up in fancy dress everywhere and getting her own spin off. Women don't need that male power Fantasy. They can carve their own path.

  18. You see that's my issue. Why Jane Bond? We saying women need an already established proven character to prop them up? It's weak. It's lazy and slightly disrespectful on the original creators character. To me once a character is penned - that's the character. Maybe slight tweaks for artistic purposes. If I create a popular character I wouldn't want someone bastardising for panderings sake. In comics it's slightly different as they're usually alongside other characters or following in their footsteps. I'm fine with that. I dunno. Call me old fashioned or stubborn but I like to think there's enough female talent to create original characters that I can read/watch. I'd much rather a whole new female spy with their own vision than a rehashing of Bond/Batman/Holmes/Robin Hood et al
