DisturbedSwan
Couple of great documentary episodes by Danny O'Dwyer (former Gamespot) on the games troubled development and the cancelled Doom 4:
ThreeFour
Hell beasts vanquished. Good game. It did nothing revolutionary. Ironically to improve things it had to go backwards. Despite some modern gaming traits it ooozes classic Doom. Enjoyable variety of guns, enemy variety and multilayered level design. I love the vibrancy of the Hell world. Rich reds and oranges with coloured powerups etc made all the better with a new TV Only negatives were combat feeling a little whimsical and the story. I mentioned you don't play Doom for story, and I stand to that, but you felt they tried to add some character to the Doom Marine but it fell to the way side a bit. Early on frustrating/rebellious in smashing the screens and reactors. Little things like that. A shame as I'd like a little more of that. Not a major injection of story but more of him taking charge, being a bad-ass. Combat on the whole was great. It just felt a little like the weapons didn't really specialise that much or lacked a satisfying punch. Especially the BFG, which I found underwhelming. Some of the later big baddies also weren't very threatening either. I found the 'Pinkies' most threatening and that just sounds ridiculous Really enjoyed it tho. I'm down for the inevitable sequel ID.
Whiskey_chaser
I had the day off work yesterday so thought i'd fire this up (it was a Christmas present). 29 gig patch. I ended up playing Paragon.
Pikman
I picked this up over Christmas (Yup, still on the forum occasionally ) and really enjoying it! Not sure if it might be so great to play just before bed though, I get a bit pumped and then can't sleep so well... I am a few levels/hours in, it's good fun and occasionally stressful, which makes no sense as you can just blast your way through and try again if you fail... Whiskey_chaser
I finally got to this over the weekend. Fucking hell - it's pretty intense! I also played it just before bed on Friday. Weird dreams. Very weird dreams. Lots of ripping and tearing.
ThreeFour
I know right? Ones enough but they usually come in packs and hound your ass. Developed a nice solution to them. Shoot em.

ThreeFour
What what?! Just strafe n shoot all your big toys. Pick up the health n ammo drops. Didn't find it that tough to be honest. Didn't really use the chainsaw or BFG much throughout the game either, as I just forgot about them
ThreeFour
If memory serves it was a crouch jump combo to avoid it. I'm not chest thumping or making you out to be a pussy but I honestly didn't think it was that hard. The whole game was pretty simple, brain numbing, gory fun Apart from the Pinkies. Fuck them
DANGERMAN
they've put all the dlc in the main game. Just cancel it if you're never going to play it again (or never going to play the multi)
Jimboxy
I've been so impressed with all the extra free support this has received. I might actually play it one day.

regemond
So. Turns out I. Fucking.SUCK. At this game. Finally loaded this up after picking up it forever ago and for whatever reason my brain just isn't twigging with the gameplay. Not being able to sprint is hurting me, as is the lack of reload (muscle memory is spamming Square every couple of shots, which is throwing me across to the chainsaw). It looks great though. They've really brought the old school looks to life in this, the bold red hues of Mars contrasted with the industrial themes of the station. Anyway, I've died approximately 8 thousand times, and I'm not far past the part where you get the heavy assault rifle. I'm gong to keep playing, because there's something there that's absolutely fantastic and waiting for me to line up with the gameplay they want, I just hope it doesn't take too long is all! ThreeFour
It's very frenetic. Don't try and play it cagey or hide in cover. Keep moving, strafing, using the elevated levels all while shooting. The enemies are pretty predictable, requiring up close melees or slow weapons/poor shots. As long as you keep moving you're fine. Unlike some others that try to emulate this combat, this has got a great combat loop where you should be full on health and ammo, but if you need any just walk over any in your dash around. This requires use of gore finishers and chainsaw. You should always be going for gore finishers; it not only kills them outright but they drop health keeping you topped up. Low on ammo? A certain tree felling device is your friend. Not only good for killing the bigger fiends outright (fuel depending) you'll get a loot pinata of ammo. Youll get a feel for what weapon is best on what enemies. Cycle them for the job in hand. When shit gets real - there's usually a power up somewhere. Go crazy ? retroed
The new update for DOOM on Switch includes the option for gyro aiming.
regemond
2 hours ago, ThreeFour said: Lots of stuff. Yeah I get it all, I understand it in my head, it's just translating it to the controller I struggle with. Every time I try and get in the enemy's face I get annihilated. And I've always been horrific at dodging. I might end up hang to do what I did with Wolfy 2 and drop the difficulty to the easiest.

HandsomeDead
I came to post about the gyro controls in the Switch version because it has lifted my interest in the game again. I'll now maybe stretch to £30 now. But then I just think WHY NOT PUT THIS IN THE OTHER CONSOLE VERSIONS AS WELL GOD SAKE WHY CAN NO ONE SEE HOW GOOD THEY ARE IN SPLATOON! regemond
Yeah dropped the difficulty now and having much more fun with it. Progress is a lot easier now, and it doesn't feel like a slog to get kills. I just wish the petrol for the chainsaw was a bit easier to find...
